Green Durham
The mission of the Green Durham is to engage organizations, community leaders, and community members to identify, maintain comprehensive strategies and programs that can promote and encourage projects to reduce environmental impact, leverage economic development opportunities and implement workforce development initiatives.

SURGE
SURGE is a diverse network of youth and student groups at high schools, colleges, community colleges, and universities, which strives to empower its members to build a strong and cohesive movement for progressive political change in North Carolina and beyond. The organization began as a student organization at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1998, and was chartered as a 501(c)(3) in 2002; our office is headquartered in Durham. SURGE's work focuses on building youth leadership on a number of environmental and social issues and includes many national-level projects and campaigns. We are members of the Triangle area Grassroots Energy Alliance, the statewide Clean Energy Coalition and the national Energy Action Coalition , where we have worked on a number of local and statewide energy initiatives including grassroots outreach on the 2007 NC REPS bill and the national Campus Climate Challenge campaign.

Operation Breakthrough
Operation Breakthrough’s current programs are: (1) Family Empowerment To Self-Sufficiency, (2) Head Start, and (3) Weatherization/Energy Conservation. Family Empowerment Action To Self-Sufficiency (FEATS) assists families and individuals with basic skills training, job readiness, housing issues, money management, case management, and counseling sessions. Head Start, a comprehensive pre-school program, serves over 459 low-income children and families at five sites. This program fosters a learning environment for three and four year old children and supports social, cultural, intellectual, physical and emotional development. In addition, this program provides nutritious meals and snacks, assists needy parents with transportation, offers family support services, and screenings for health, vision, dental, speech, language and hearing. Weatherization/Energy Conservation assists families with creating and maintaining safe and energy-efficient homes through pre- and post-assessments, insulation, Carbon Monoxide and smoke detectors, furnace repair or replacement, appliance repair or replacement, window or door replacements when absolutely necessary.
